Until then, you should place a wad of sugar-free chewing gum into the gap left by the missing filling. This is a temporary plug which will keep food out of the hole and keep it safe until the filling can be replaced.

Broken teeth are frequent dental emergencies. Make sure to come into the dental office as soon as possible to prevent cavities, infection, and other more serious health problems. In the meantime, you can use ice or cold packs to help with the pain.

If you can get to the dentist’s office within 10 minutes, your tooth can be successfully reimplanted. Next, find your tooth. Be careful not to touch the root of the tooth. Put the tooth in a container of milk if possible. If there is no milk you can store it in your spit (either against your cheek or in a container); in a physiologic saline solution or in water.
